Lung function testing

Lung function testing is essential for diagnosis and monitoring of lung diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema and interstitial lung disease. Pulmonary function testing is performed in accredited respiratory laboratories according to international standards.

Cardiopulmonary exercise

Dr Samaranayake has extensive experience in conducting detailed assessments of the cardiovascular, respiratory and peripheral muscle function during exercise using CPET testing. Dr Samaranayake is happy to facilitate urgent CPET testing for peri-operative assessment prior to major surgery or anaesthetic.

Sleep studies

Diagnostic and treatment titration sleep studies are a key component of assessment and management of sleep disorders. A detailed evaluation of sleep quality, breathing, heart motoring and movements during sleep can be performed.

Bronchoscopy

Dr Samaranayake is highly specialised in performing minimally invasive advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy and therapeutic interventional bronchoscopy procedures such as linear and radial Endobronchial Ultrasound Guided Biopsy (EBUS), cryobiopsies, laser bronchoscopy and recanalisation of airways. He is also experienced in all diagnostic and therapeutic pleural procedures including indwelling pleural catheter insertions and medical thoracoscopy.

Right heart catheterisation

Cardiac catheterisation is used to directly measure the blood pressure within the lung blood vessels using a small thin and flexible catheter. Exercise testing during right heart catheterisation can provide additional valuable information in certain conditions.
